I love when just a few words can give a photo a profound and meaningful story. This piece is a great example of that. At first glance, it is an unusual sight. Normally, we are presented with visions of beautiful, delicate, but nonetheless perfect butterflies. The simple, pithy couplet brings the picture beyond breaking a visual norm to conceptually representing struggle, without sounding bombastic or contrived. The image shares that simplicity as well as the deeper meaning. The image, by displaying vibrant colors, suggest that this burden is borne and perhaps even overcome by the little butterfly, making it not mournful but joyous and inspiring.
This image is technically superb, as well. I think the depth of field is spot-on. The subject is emphasized within the image without being isolated from it. It helps that the larger leaf in the foreground fades out of focus down its length, as it helps to tie the foreground, and the subject with it, to the background. The colors compliment each other nicely, while there is a good amount of contrast further emphasizing the presence of the subject.
Few pieces I've seen combine beauty, concept, technique, and message quite like this one.
